WinFS was the codename for an advanced storage subsystem slated to be included in the Microsoft Windows "Longhorn" operating system. It was designed for persistence and management of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. It was included in builds up to the reset (4093), then it was permanently scrapped due to many problems with this component including memory leaks and startup problems.
