Windows CE (Compact Embedded) is a specific variant of Microsoft Windows Embedded designed for use with handheld computers. Subsets of this technology include Windows Mobile and its successor Windows Phone, which are used in smartphones and Pocket PCs, as well as some Software for the Sega Dreamcast. Windows Phone 8 abandoned the Windows CE architecture, and it and future WinPhone versions, being based on MinWin, uses the NT kernel.
